Hancock Park Jazz Lovers: LACMA’s 1st Friday Jazz for 2015 is A Tribute to Julian “Cannonball” Adderley

April24CannonballAdderleyJazz at LACMA opens its 24th season with a tribute to LACMA’s first jazz concert, which featured Julian “Cannonball” Adderley. As part of LACMA’s 50th anniversary, this special Cannoball concert features longtime drummer Roy McCurdy, trumpeter Scotty Barnhart, alto saxophonist Andrew Speight, tenor saxophonist Rickey Woodard, pianist Llew Mathews, and bassist James Leary. As one of the most popular alto saxophonists, Adderley is best remembered for his 1966 hit, “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” and his recordings with Miles Davis, including “Kind of Blue” and “Milestones.”
