2016 4th of July Fireworks at Wilshire Country Club in Hancock Park on Monday, July 4, 9PM

fireworks-photos-133 (1)The Wilshire Country Club’s truly amazing fireworks are scheduled for Monday evening July 4th at 9pm. One of the real treats in Hancock Park on The 4th of July are these spectacular fireworks offered every year by The Wilshire Country Club.

If they are as good as they were last year they are a phenomenal display. A corner near me where  Wilcox and Rosewood meet  is a popular spot. Maybe I’ll see you there.

Good News for Hancock Park Real Estate: Netflix to move to Sunset Bronson Studios

Icon-300x215Last year, Netflix leased 200,000 square feet of the building at 5800 West Sunset Boulevard (Sunset & Bronson) in a deal that many in the industry touted as evidence of Hollywood’s rise. Earlier last month, Netflix executed an additional 10-year lease for the remaining five floors of Icon, or another 123,000 square feet.

The Netflix deal remains the largest lease ever signed in Hollywood in terms of square feet. “This is a landmark deal for Hollywood, for our company, for the project and Sunset Bronson Studios.  This lease exemplifies the convergence of tech and media in L.A.” said  Hudson Pacific Properties CEO Victor Coleman.

How Do You Tell if it’s a Seller’s Market or a Buyer’s Market?

We’re currently in a Seller’s Market for all price ranges for Hancock Park Homes because of a shortage of inventory. Not enough inventory in each of the price ranges to satisfy buyers in that price range for the next 6 months. For example for Estate Homes …when a Fixer Estate Property came on the market on the corner of Muirfield Rd. and 3rd St. there were over 10 offers.

Top 10 Home Trends that Buyers Want in 2016*

1. New finishes: Matte finishes will slowly replace stainless steel in 2016 and 2017.  They hide fingerprints, smudges and dirt, and they are easier to clean.
2. Cushioned flooring: The days of cement flooring are out. It’s too cold and hard on the feet. Cork flooring is making a comeback. It now comes in a variety of colors and is much more comfortable to walk on.
3. Circadian lighting: This year, GE is expected to release its new smart LED bulb that can change the color of the light that’s emitted. You’ll be able to set it to change from energizing white light during the day to a warmer, more relaxing orange glow in the evening.
4. Better water quality: The National Association of Homebuilders’ 2016 New American Home will feature a whole-home water filtration system. Clean living is in. For existing homes, this will be a popular feature tacked onto home renovation budgets.
5. Simplicity and tech: Efficient, family-friendly layouts and open floor-plans with smart home technology are going to be more popular than ever in 2016. Today’s buyers are looking for homes that are well-designed with more space in central living areas, great flow and clever, built-in storage.
6. Less grout surfaces and a clean aesthetic: Luxury vinyl flooring and larger tile (12 -by-24 inch or 36-by-36 inch as opposed to 12-by-12 inch) will be a huge trend in 2016. We’ll also see more of the larger 5-by-10 foot tiles in shower surrounds and walls in bathrooms.
7. Lower pile rugs:  Fewer shags and more patterned carpets will replace the standard plush. Cut and loop will be popular in 2016 and beyond. Carpet pattern and texture increase the perception of quality and value in carpet.
8. Enhancing health with clean design homes: Top trends will be fabrics that don’t hold dust, Quartz stone counter-tops that are lower maintenance with antibacterial properties and durability, mudrooms with benches where people can leave their shoes.
9. Luxury home amenities: High-end amenities such as outdoor showers, procedure rooms and private museums. Some luxury buyers are even scooping up the house next door to use for separate guest spaces.
10. Multi-family construction: Millennials and Generation Xers are likely to make up the largest portion of home buyers in 2016. New developments will be offering a wide variety of amenities such as pet-friendly facilities, observatories, luxury spa services, valet parking and on-site work spaces

Pantone’s Colors of the Year 2016 are Rose Quartz and Serenity

Pantone has selected not one but two colors, Rose Quartz and Serenity, as the 2016 Color of the Year.

Rose Quartz (Pantone 13-1520) is a “persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and sense of composure.” The warm shade of pink will go nicely with spring florals and metallics as we round out the winter season. Serenity (Pantone 15-3919) is “weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.” Adding this soft blue hue with a slight hint of periwinkle will create a tranquil and spa-like setting.
