Johnny Depp & Tim Burton Double Feature at Egyptian Theatre! Writers Larry Karaszewski & Scott Alexander In Person! ED WOOD / EDWARD SCISSORHANDS on Thu, May 17 at 7:30pm
|May 17, 2012|
1994, Disney, 127 min, USA, Dir: Tim Burton
Director Tim Burton’s unabashed love for his subject makes this 1994 biopic of the director of “the worst movie ever made” (that would be PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE) a perversely uplifting experience, although in reality its title character’s life was anything but happy. Johnny Depp portrays legendary schlock director Ed Wood as an enthusiastic hero of the cinema, a man whose love for moviemaking is so intense that it almost makes the quality of his work irrelevant. With an alternately hilarious and poignant screenplay by Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander.
Discussion between films with writers Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander (ED WOOD).
1990, 20th Century Fox, 105 min, USA, Dir: Tim Burton
Director Tim Burton’s wondrous modern fairy tale – his most heartbreaking and inventive film – stars Johnny Depp as the boy with sharp blades where his fingers should be, courtesy of his inventor father Vincent Price (in his final film role). Winona Ryder, Dianne Wiest and Alan Arkin are the suburbanites who fall under Edward’s spell in this utterly original Burton creation.
